Nearly 400 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, with their leaders, paraded through Tring on Sunday at the St George’s Day parade at Tring parish church on Sunday.
Tring School Swing Band played the music in celebration of 100 years of Scouting in Tring.
All of the sections work towards the Chief Scout’s badge, with Beavers aiming for Bronze, Cubs for Silver and Scouts for Gold. The top award, Chief Scout’s Diamond was presented to Benjamin Chambers of Berkhamsted Scouts and VVV Explorer unit.
The challenges and achievements of Scouting were celebrated by the presentation of awards by Assistant County Commissioner Liz Walker. Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards were presented to Paul Porter and Rob McVey, both of whom had been Tring Scouts, and to Tim Capper who attended Ridgeway Scouts, also in Tring.
These awards were gained whilst they were Explorer scouts in the Oddy and Crong units in Tring. To achieve this they had to accomplish service to the community, personal development and an expedition over 4 days into wild country.
The top achievement in scouting, the Queen’s Scout Award, was presented to Paul Porter and to Rob McVey. Liz Walker said “This is the result of a lot of work by them and their leaders throughout their scouting life. It is the pinnacle of Scouting and should be seen as a target for all the younger scouts”.
Guests at the parade included The Mayor of Tring, Penny Hearn, The Mayor of Berkhamsted, David Collins and Councillors Derek Townsend and Barry Batchelor.
