Active Support
West Herts has a long tradition of active Scout Fellowship support, and this has now metamorphosed seamlessly into Scout Active Support. So all you Fellowship members out there are now part of the SAS! Fact! But please don't think that means you have to stop whatever you are already doing to support scouting. That's the last thing we want....... More is better!

There are all sorts of ways that the SAS can support scouting
  • They can help regularly on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or just as and when available and needed.
  • They can utilise existing skills or learn new ones, so no previous scouting experience is necessary.
  • Active does not mean that everyone has to perform like Action Man. Help with fund-raising, tea-making, adult recruitment, badge training, delivery of adventurous activities or simple administrative tasks all provide equally valuable relief to overstretched leaders and administrators.
  • Supporting scouting should be FUN. If it's not, you're probably not doing it right!
If you want to know more about your new scouting hat, or if you are not already involved but like the idea, please get in touch with me Ann Seward, Active Support Coordinator ().

I look forward to hearing from you.
Recent Activities
  • Devising and running bases at the County Green Beret competition.
  • Building and running the Assault Course at the recent Scouts Frosties competition at Lees Wood Camp-site.
Future Activities
  • Fundraisng for the 2011 jamboree. We will have 5 Explorer Scouts attending so they will need to raise a hefty sum of money between them to fund the trip, and help with ideas and the fund-raising itself would be much appreciated. For those of you who did not know, the jamboree fees are set higher for scouts from the more affluent countries than for those from developing countries, so we subsidise them, thereby ensuring that attendance at the jamboree is attainable for members of the movement all over the world. This is what makes it a unique event.
  • Summer camps and expeditions. Every such event needs a home contact, not related to anyone attending the event, so if you're around during the summer holidays, you could be useful!
  • WATCH THIS SPACE for future opportunities to offer support. LEADERS, please get in touch if you have a support opportunity you'd like to advertise here!
